Where I've Been, Where We Are

Let me start by saying that it's good to be back. I have been taking some time off as I am often prone to do. I follow so many great political thinkers and writers who are absolutely prolific with their output of content and I am always so impressed with the quality some of them sustain, but I have never had that kind of ability. If you are someone who has visited my site before you may know that my content comes slowly, but I hope you find my opinions to be well formed and reasonable. When I write in this space, I don’t really set out for you dear reader. This blog is a selfish endeavor where I am simply putting my thoughts down on current political issues I feel are worth commenting on. It's the same when I record a video, podcast or write a poem. With all this being said, I think it is high time I take once again to the keyboard to say a few words about the current state of everything, so here it goes.

I think a contributing factor to why I haven’t been writing more is the pacing of the news cycle. Let me explain. All of the many topics I am most interested in writing about tend to be more macro concerns. I am fascinated currently as the sitting president of the United States is combating what I and many others around the country clearly can see is a blatant conspiracy theory, constructed by the intelligence community with the assistance of controlled media, that paints Trump as an agent of Russia. This has gone on far longer than anyone has wanted it to, clearly. If you are a subscriber to this belief that the Kremlin is in control of US politics, it was your hope Trump would have been removed and exposed a long time ago. If you are like me, you were certain the nation would wake up and arrive at the realization that it had once again been had by bad actors in its intelligence community and political system. Sadly, neither is the case and instead, two years into what I consider to be a wildly successful first term in office for president Trump, we are still arguing back and forth over the most basic questions surrounding this nightmare, like ‘What did Russia do specifically?’ and ‘How is Trump even involved?’

I guess what I am trying to say is that I got tired of the same nonsense and a part of me honestly believed that by taking some time off I could jump back into the fray once we (America) had a clearer picture of the truth of our reality. This hasn’t really happened. Well, actually it kind of has, but not in a way that has yet to move the needle and sway public opinion to one side or another. In fact, both sides have traded narrative blows with one another, back and forth through combating headlines. Of course, this is all spectacle. Anyone out there with any familiarity with my beliefs at all knows how I interpret these things. The big headlines that grab the nation's attention from day to day, while important, are almost always worth ignoring. Not completely, but the following hysteria, the endless hot takes, the predictions of doom for one side or another; don't listen to it.

That too is a contributing factor in my hiatus. While things move at a glacial pace on the macro level, day-to-day things are at a fever pitch. The news cycle swings like a pendulum from certain impeachment to imminent deep state exposure. Who could possibly keep up? Why would anyone try? The simple fact is there is no one out there on any media platform on any channel in this country who has a real clue what is actually going on at the crux of it all. Some know more than others, but the very small number of people that have access to the truth of the plight of our nation aren’t speaking, and the ones who are speaking are usually dangerously misinformed. This is especially true and proven accurate time and time again by the media. If you have followed anything I have ever written or said in this space or on my various social media platforms, you should know I believe journalism in America is long dead. I agree with the president's cries of ‘Fake News’ and assertions that the media is the enemy of the American people. In fact, I think I have been saying things like that far longer than even he has.

American journalism is a hollowed out husk of its former self, zombified and stumbling through the news cycles on a daily basis in the hopes you don’t realize that its goal is in no way the pursuit of truth, but rather the issuing of marching orders to the masses. Hoards misinformed, whose opinions are solely formed and shaped by the powers that be dictating the national dialogue to the editorial boards they control, is the desired outcome of the American Media Establishment. Propaganda in America is disseminated every hour of every day by the institutions most trusted to inform the population. How can lone voices like me compete? The effort is futile and exhausting. We the people are quite literally living a dystopian nightmare we can’t even see. Lies are truth, truth is malleable, reality is what the State (or deep state) says it is.

You’d think something this obvious and massive would be easy to point out, but no matter how many times you recite facts like: The Washington Post is owned by Jeff Bezos and has a contract with the CIA, six incredibly large and powerful corporations control literally all of our news and gatekeep our information, and a disproportionate number of television and print commentators and journalists have familial and personal ties to the political realm they are believed to cover objectively, people will continue to dismiss these concerns as nonsense. Conspiracy theorist have heard a lot to describe me. I embrace it, but again, it is tedious.

What is there to be done? Well, we wait. The real truth is coming. No matter how far off in the distance it seems to be, one way or another there will be a reckoning and it is going to rock the foundation of our very nation, perhaps the world. It is sad, but true. A society cannot be gas lit and lied to ad nauseum for years without repercussion. Human beings have an innate desire to be free, and freedom cannot be had when in the absence of truth. I've made this same parallel before, many months ago (perhaps years now), but we are no more free than those in Plato's cave. What we are commenting on every day in the news and on social media, the hysteria the populace is constantly whipped up into are all manufactured. We are no more aware of the nature of our reality than those chained down in the dark shouting at the shadows being projected on the wall in front of them. The spectacle of political theater occurring all around us every day is a deliberate distraction concocted by desperate men and women in constant opposition of truth, but they fight a losing battle.

Probably in October, but perhaps after the election, we will see things much more clearly. If I were Trump and I knew the depths of the corruption that preceded me and I wanted to completely destroy my enemies, I would make sure the world found out what I knew before election day 2018. But, perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps Trump has nothing and is a corrupt, Russian-planted oligarch running roughshod over our political system. In that case, the traps have all been set, Mueller will undoubtedly find mountains worth of incriminating evidence and Trump should be counting the days till his impeachment. In either case, America will have to have a very long discussion about what happened and why. We will also need to address how we handled the years in between and what we do next. It will not be fun, it is going to be ugly, but because we are Americans, proud and strong Americans, we will overcome and we will never let anything like this happen here, again. At least we can hope because really, what is America without hope?
